The Phonophor hearing aid was a further development of the telephone. As early as 1878, Werner von Siemens made a fundamental improvement to the telephone receiver by introducing a horseshoe magnet that he specifically developed for this purpose.
The sound reproduced by the Phonophor was so loud that hearing-impaired people were better able to follow conversations with this device than they were without it.
