Major milestones in the hearing instrument industry and at Siemens Audiology Group
By the mid-1900s, hearing aids were being equipped with "crystal" (piezo) microphones.
Unfortunately, this type of microphone was relatively sensitive to environmental influences. It had to be specially sealed against moisture and could not withstand temperatures above 40°C. At the same time, it permitted an extremely flat design – another major step toward the miniaturization of hearing aids.
